ANNUAL SCULPTURE ART COMPETITION
Application deadline is
30 May 2007.
This year Venice Sculture
Park is organizing three different competitions for sculptors.
1 – SCULPTURE.
The applicants in this competition will be chosen on the basis of
aesthetic value.
Although the technical
requirements outlined below must be met, the selection in this
category will be based on the formal attributes of the project.
2 – CINETIC SCULPTURE.
The artists that will be selected for this competition will be those
who can better interpret the relation between sculpture and solar
and/or wind energy. This relationship will manifest itself through
movement, self-illumination or other ways that the artist can think
of. This will be achieved by meeting also the technical requirements
outlined below. Inventive, innovation and technical aspects will be
the key elements considered in the selection process.
INTRO ON FUSINA
-
One of the oldest campsites of Europe. Visited by around
150.000 tourists every year. Success due to its management style,
the amazing location facing Venice over the Lagoon, the fact that
amenities such as office toilette and reception where built by Carlo
Scarpa in 1957.
See
www.camping-fusina.com for a brief overview of establishment.
AIM OF THE PROJECT
-
The creation of a sculpture park, as a symbolic homage to
Venice and to Carlo Scarpa.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Two main things to consider
in the choice of materials are:
-
the fact that most guests of campsite are young and some
might see climbing on the sculpture as fun. Acts of vandalism should
be considered..
-
The campsite location on the waterfront makes it susceptible
to rust problem.
-
Scale of the project must be such that the sculpture can be
appreciated from a small distance. Human size or bigger
Hence materials recommended
are: steel (if protected from rust), stone, cement, wood, plastic
materials, open to applicant’s suggestion.
REALIZATION
A range of materials is
available on site, as is technical support from our team of
specialized workers. All tools for working steel wood and concrete
are available at the campsite, as well as cranes tractors bulldozers
or whatever else is necessary for the carting and installation.
A vehicle could be provided
for the purpose of sourcing the materials from local scrap metal
yards or other industrial waste sites. All costs related to the
realization of the project , from the sourcing of materials to
technical support and other expenses will be taken care by Venice
Sculpture Park.
